A NEWPORT man had his dog taken, shaved and left with eyes like "raw meat."
Aron Mills, 45, went out with his terrier cross Bella on Wednesday night at around 8.30pm.
When he let her off the lead, she ran into the woods and despite him calling, she didn't come back.
He went home, a short distance away, and around 11pm, she came back, when Mr Mills noticed what had happened - she had been shaved along both sides of her body and under her eyes, leaving them both red raw.
Mr Mills, of Waltwood Road, Underwood, bought the dog two years ago as a present for his three grandchildren, Ryan Parcell, six, Kirsty-Leigh Parcell, five, and Gabrielle Parcell, three.
He said: "I felt sorry straight away - who could have done something like this?"
His wife, Laura Mills, who lives in Bettws, added: "I broke down in tears, I couldn't understand what sort of person would do this - sick people."
The family took Bella to the vet yesterday and her eyes have to be treated with salt water until her next appointment on July 11 when the vets will make sure she is recovering well.
The matter has been reported to the RSPCA.
