A NEWPORT couple are inviting the older generation to show off their musical skills in aid of charity.

Hellen Bach and Norman Macintosh, who met through their love for Terry Wogan, have run Charity Goods, a professional fundraising company, for the past 10 years, raising around £5million for Children In Need.

But now the pair have also started fundraising for children’s charity Barnardo’s with their latest venture being an ‘Oldie Composers’ competition.

The national online contest invites people aged 40 and over to show off their songwriting skills while raising funds for Barnardo’s.

The top four songwriters will be invited to a top London studio to record their songs with professional musicians and will make a CD and have their songs released on iTunes.

Judging the competition is Radio 2’s Sir Terry Wogan and Ken Bruce.

Ms Bach and Mr Macintosh are both members of the Terry Wogan fan club, Terry’s Old Geezers or Gals (TOGS), and met through a club event in Durham in 2000 before setting up the organisation shortly afterwards.

Charity Goods is also currently running a young songwriters competition open to full-time UK students aged 12 to 18.

Workshops for this are currently being held in schools throughout the country and the couple are seeking a Welsh band to help deliver workshops locally.

The CD sold more than 80,000 copies and a duet by Aled Jones and Sir Terry Wogan on the album, Little Drummer Boy, reached number three in the charts.
