A FESTIVAL celebrating the heritage of the Brecon and Monmouthshire canal concluded at the weekend with a family fun day.
Two events were organised on Saturday and Sunday as part of the Routes and Roots programme, which focused on promoting recreational activities in Gilwern, Govilon and Llanfoist.
Saturday saw the Govilon boat club gala take centre stage, while on Sunday live music, boat trips and canoeing were the order of the day at Goytre Wharf for the fun day.
Beginning in May, the festival has seen thousands from across Gwent and further afield enjoy what the canalside has to offer.
The water played an active part in the story of the Blaenavon Industrial Landscapes World Heritage site, and, because of its history, the festival could be funded by £2.47m Heritage Lottery Fund grant given to the Forgotten Landscapes project.
Other highlights from the substantial programme over the past few months include the In the Pink walk, a Llanfoist open gardens day and a bat walk, where people found out more about the creatures which use the waterway.
