The Welsh children¹s pre-school TV Series Bobinogs was brought to life at Newport Riverfront on Tuesday with Arad Goch¹s Penbobi Hapus a show which previously played to packed theatres a few years ago and has been brought back by popular demand.
Arad Goch¹s ability to create exciting and relevant theatre for children and young people in Wales was evidently present here as the show followed the story of Ogi and Bobin as they organise a surprise birthday party for Nib.
Throughout Penbobi Hapus they visit many friends including Mamgu and Selwyn and invite them to the party. Meanwhile Nib is alone on her birthday and begins to feel sad when everyone us too busy to celebrate with her.
Lowri Sion, Ioan Gwyn and Ffion Wyn Bowen gave great performances as Nib, Ogi and Bobin, bringing the cartoon characters to life on the stage. Also Tom Blumberg and Olwen Medi gave excellent perfomances taking on many of the supporting roles and making each one different.
The show contained great music from Geraint Cynan and my preschooler was dancing along even when they were changing the scenes. A special mention to the team who put together the very creative set that was constantly transforming from the Bobinogs house to a village shop and a scary forest.
Penbobi Hapus is a brilliant show in the Welsh medium and a must for anyone with preschoolers.
The show continues its tour around Wales until the 9th July.
