FIFTY Torfaen children who helped produce a health and safety film saw it on the big screen for the first time this week.

The pupils went to the premiere at Blaenavon Workmen’s Hall on Monday night to see the film they had helped make for Bron Afon Community Housing tenants.

The pupils, aged between eight and 16, from Hillside Primary School and Abersychan School, will now be seen on a DVD by tenants in the area.

The pupils worked with Bron Afon members and helped choose the scenes, write the script and act in it.

Each child was also given a plastic Oscar on Monday night as thanks for being involved.

The film also had the help of experts from South Wales Fire Service, the Health and Safety Executive and the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents.

Anthony Arcari, Bron Afon’s health and safety manager, said: “The film was a great team effort from so many people.

It gives useful advice on making your home safer from risks such as fire, carbon monoxide and gas.

“If this DVD leads to the prevention of one serious accident it will be worth it. “
