Hold your noses folks because Mr Stink the smelliest of vagabonds has taken residence at the New Theatre Cardiff this week in a fun musical stage show sure to be loved by children and adults alike.
Originally a children’s book by David Walliams and illustrated by the legendary Quentin Blake, Mr Stink tells the story of a vagabond, his dog, Duchess, and how they are shown kindness and friendship by a young girl called Chloe.
When Chloe allows the old tramp and his dog to stay in her parent’s garden shed, an embarrassing situation ensues for Chloe’s snobbish mother Mrs Crumb (pronounced Croomb) who is running a campaign to become a local MP.
The characters are brought to life from Walliams original book via a talented cast; Quentin Blake inspired scenery and the provision of a scratch and sniff book that invites the audience to smell the scenes as the story progresses.
Peter Edbrook gives a magical portrayal of Mr Stink, a gentleman of the road in every sense while Lotte Gilmore delights with a wide eyed and endearing performance of Chloe. The pair give a magical performance of the song “Unimaginable Kindness” which rekindles memories of the very best musicals.
Irvine Igbal and Mark Peachey almost unintentionally form a brilliant double act with their comedic and energetic performances of various characters throughout the production while Julia J Nagle is magnificent as the wonderfully snobbish Mrs Crumb.
A trip to the New Theatre to see Mr Stink will certainly start the Summer Holidays with style. It continues until Saturday!
