THE Ken Jones memorial committee will be holding a meeting tonight to discuss action for further progress to put up a statue of the Welsh rugby star.
The statue, which will be in memory of the late Ken Jones, a former Welsh rugby player and sprinter, who was born in Blaenavon, has been slow to progress due to the lack of funding available Following this meeting, donations have started trickling in, now amounting to £120.
It is believed that the project could cost as much as £80,000-£100,000 for both the commissioning of the artist and materials, so more work is needed to help fund raise.
Anyone with ideas is welcome to contact the committee or attend the meeting.
Mr Jones was born in Blaenavon in 1921 and died there in 2006, aged 84. He is best known for his winning try against the All Blacks in 1953.
The committee has set up a bank account and cheques can be made out to ‘Ken Jones Memorial Fund’ and posted to the care of Lewis Freeman at 52 Thornhill Close, Upper Cwmbran, Torfaen.
