A RECRUITMENT drive by South Wales Fire and Rescue Service to encourage more women and ethnic minorities to join the fire service in Gwent is being expanded after a successful initial campaign.
Business engagement officer John Hale first appealed to Argus readers to consider joining Chepstow fire station, but this is now opening the scheme out to residents of Usk, Monmouth, Abergavennny, Abercarn and Risca.
The service is seeking people who live within five minutes of their town station to work part-time hours as a Retained Duty System firefighter (RDS).
Four people who applied to work at the Chepstow station will now complete an entry test to see if they are suitable.
Mr Hale said: “We are very pleased with the response and we would like to expand it nowto other areas which also need firefighters. This is just about raising awareness about what people can do in their spare time.”
Anyone interested in joining the scheme should call Mr Hale on 01443 232819 or 07768035099.
