A MONMOUTHSHIRE school held an end-of-term celebration day for a teacher commended in a national award and its newly refurbished organic garden.
Year 5 and 6 teacher Gail Roberts at Llandogo Primary came third in Wales in the Teacher of the Year in a Primary School category in the Pearson Teaching Awards.
The competition, which attracted 22,000 entrants from across Wales and England, was whittled down to around 100 finalists in Wales.
Mrs Roberts, nominated by a parent due to her inspirational qualities, said she was happy with the achievement.
“I love my job but I’m not the type of person for awards, but I’m pleased all the same,” she said.
The day also marked the opening of the organic garden, which will be maintained by pupils.
Produce such as lettuces, sweetcorn and fennel will be grown at the site.
The school also boasts a new drystone wall, built out of rock from Devauden, for monitoring habitats.
