A CHURCH marked its centenary year with a three-day flower festival.
St Margaret’s Church, Pontymister, started life as a Sunday School for youngsters of families drawn to the area by the growing industry.
It was founded as a church in 1911 and to mark 100 years, a flower festival was organised by Ponthir and Torfaen Floral Society.
More than £1,000 of flowers were on display at the church on three days last week.
On Sunday, Bishop of Monmouth Dominic Walker marked the culmination of the events by presiding over a Eucharist at the church before a parish lunch.
In addition to the church’s weekly Wednesday Eucharist, its church hall also plays host to activities ranging from judo and slimming classes to fundraising events for St David’s Foundation Hospice Care and the Greyhound Welfare Trust.
