TWO young Gwent actors appeared in a children’s version of I’m a Celebrity Get Me out of Here.
Friends Joe Hurst and Lucy Edwards, both 12, spent five days in the Australian outback taking on messy and physical challenges as The Valley Commandos in Nickelodeon’s six-part series Camp Orange.
The show, which was screened for the first time on Friday, sees four teams of best friends taking on challenges but without any contact with the outside world.
Joe and Lucy, flew out to Australia in May and spent five days filming in New South Wales with Olympic gold medallist Denise Lewis acting as mentor to the group.
The children also had ten extra days exploring Australia, visiting Bondi Beach and Sydney.
Rougemont School pupil Joe and Caerleon Comprehensive School pupil Lucy joined thousands of children from across the UK in auditioning for a part in the show.
Joe’s mum, Tracey Hurst, said: “They loved it. Both said it was an opportunity of a lifetime.”
The friends, who met when they auditioned for Peter Pan at The Riverfront in Newport two years ago, are now looking forward to their next television project after securing roles in a television show about Shirley Bassey’s life.
Joe will play the part of the singer’s boyfriend when she was young, and Lucy is a school pupil. The friends start filming on Wednesday.
