A SPONSORED walk and tribute evening in memory of Gwent fundraiser Bridget McNally raised almost £3,000 for charity.
Firefighters walked ten miles for the late Bridget McNally, MBE, 50, who died recently following a long battle with cancer.
Bridget was a supporter of Cancer Research UK for many years and raised over £300,000. Her first fundraising activity was to climb Kilimanjaro in 2003 with firefighters Gerry Newell and Mike Hall.
The walk from Ystrad Mynach College to Bargoed Fire Station was organised by fire fighter Kevin Jones, 45, and son Luke, 17, of Merthyr Young Fire Fighters and raised over £900.
“We wanted to pay our own tribute to Bridget and wished to support the charity,” said Kevin.
Close friends of Bridget and supporters of the charity raised over £3,000 at a recent tribute evening held at Blackwood Rugby Club.
Linda Strange, Area Volunteer Manager, Cancer Research UK said: “We are delighted that friends of Bridget continue to support the charity in this special way and are grateful to all the support that has been given in Bridget’s memory.”
