FOURTEEN young Gwent dancers will share the stage with one of the UK’s largest ballet companies this week after being selected to perform in a professional production of Coppelia.
The ballet dancers from Newport, Oakdale, Pontypool, Cwmbran and Blackwood will perform alongside the English Youth Ballet’s principal artists at the New Theatre in Cardiff for three special performances of the classical ballet on Friday and Saturday.
The girls, aged between eight and 16, were selected by the ballet company and took part in an 11 day intensive rehearsal process at Fitzalan High School.
Company manager Ben Garner said: “Working with English Youth Ballet will probably be the highlight of these talented young dancers’ careers. The audiences watching EYB are in for a unique experience too.
They will be seeing both top international principal artists and the best young talent from their region sharing the stage.”
