A FORMER Cwmbran school is set to be demolished and could make way for housing.
Persimmon Homes has applied to Torfaen council for prior notification to demolish the former Hollybush County Primary School.
The school closed in 2009 to be replaced by the £6.4 million Nant Celyn Primary School.
Work on building the new school on the Hollybush site started in July 2009 and Nant Celyn opened in September 2010.
It was designed to replace both Hollybush and Brookfield schools.
But there has been some vandalism to the old Hollybush school building with windows smashed.
Lisa Allemby, senior land manager of Persimmon Homes East Wales, said: “Vandalism has been a problem at Hollybush School and we hope that its demolition will safely resolve this problem.”
Persimmon Homes East Wales applied to Torfaen council on July 15 to demolish the former school premises and outbuilding.
Ms Allemby said it is still working on an application for a new housing development on the site to submit to the council in the future and is working with the council on preparing this.
