A GWENT fun day nearly scrapped due to a lack of funding turned its fortunes around on Sunday, as hundreds enjoyed what it had to offer.
One of the organisers of the Maesglas Summer Fun Day, Katrice Perrin said Sunday's event was under threat, as the Welsh Government did not approve funding for it.
So local people, businesses and councillors got together to raise £2,000 in just two weeks, which saw the Maesglas Communities First run event go-ahead as planned.
More than 300 people headed to Maesglas Primary School to see such fun delights as wrestling shows, a beauty pageant and a basketball tournament, whilst stalls, a bouncy castle and a BBQ packed out the venue.
Ms Perrin said she was pleased so many people pulled together to support it, and a similar day is already being planned for next year.
