A CAERLEON woman who has battled breast cancer is calling on people to support this year’s Macmillan Cancer Support World’s Biggest Coffee Morning.
Helen Pratt, 37, of Castle Street, was diagnosed three days after Christmas in 2004 after examining herself and finding a lump.
This led to her undergoing a mastectomy in February 2005 followed by six months of chemotherapy and a month of radiotherapy.
Mrs Pratt, who was at the time living in Weston-super-Mare underwent the treatment at Weston Hospital and was told she was in remission.
In 2007 she then underwent reconstructive surgery at Bristol’s Frenchay Hospital.
The help and advice she received from Macmillan was very supportive leading to her calling on people to help with supporting this year’s Macmillan event.
She said: "I wasn’t surprised when I was diagnosed as there is a family history but it was still daunting.
"I had great support from family and friends though and Macmillan was fantastic.
The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning event takes place on September 30 and invites people all over the country to hold a coffee morning to raise money for the cancer charity.
Mrs Pratt will be fundraising herself on the day although she is yet to decide how.
