A MOTHER who opened a music store 20 years ago in memory of her daughter who died from cystic fibrosis has now opened a new shop in Cwmbran.

The family business Hannah’s Music, named after Hannah Mutlow, who died on May 8, 1991, opened in Cwmbran shopping centre on July 21.

Carol Mutlow, 58, set up the first Hannah’s Music store in Chepstow as a way of marking Hannah’s musical talent, just four months after her daughter died.

Hannah died just before her 17th birthday but had already demonstrated her talent, having started giving piano lessons at the age of 14.

Mrs Mutlow said: "Hannah was an absolutely brilliant pianist.

"We had always talked about opening a music shop and after she died it was just something I had to do.

"I had previously worked in retail, but always for someone else. This was the first time I decided to go it alone.

"My two daughters, Jaynie and Vicky, will be running the Cwmbran store, and I will continue to run Chepstow.

"It has always been a family affair and my husband, John, carries out all the handywork."

Mrs Mutlow also opened a store in Abergavenny some time back but has now closed it to open the store in Cwmbran.

"Cwmbran didn’t have a music shop, so I thought it would be a good opportunity. We were on the outskirts in Abergavenny and wanted to be in the town centre," she said.

"It’s all been a bit manic transferring the stock over, and we’ve completely filled the Cwmbran shop to the brim as we have downsized premises.

"It’s all happened so quickly, but the shopping area seems such a friendly place we already feel at home."

Mrs Mutlow also puts on an annual music festival called Rock in the Dell and showcases the local talent Chepstow has to offer.
