A KITTEN dumped in Blackwood after being bitten by a dog is enjoying a new home thanks to a Gwent man.

Lyndon Bishop, 51, adopted black and white kitten Grace after reading about her ordeal in the Argus.

Three-month-old Grace, named Precious by her rescuers, was found on June 15 by a member of the public after she was dumped in a skip.

Grace suffered a fractured back right leg, infected wounds and an injured back right paw.

Veterinary orthopaedic surgeon Russell Chandler, who operated on the then seven-week-old kitten at Pontymister’s Alphavet Veterinary Centre said the wounds and crushed thigh appeared to have been caused by dog bites and her leg had been broken for around a week.

Gwent Cats Protection took over the care of Grace before animal lover Mr Bishop, who lives in Griffithstown and owns two cats and a dog, came forward.

He campaigns for a number of animal charities including Cwmbran animal sanctuary All Creatures Great and Small.

He said: "I lost my cat Susi in April who I had for 18 years so I was wanting to get a new kitten and then I saw the story in the Argus. She is still limping a bit on her leg and is a bit wary in the house in the mornings but she is doing ok."

Gwent Cats Protection extended its thanks to people who donated towards Grace's veterinary bills after reading its appeal in the Argus. The charity got £850 in donations towards the £1,015.90 bill.
