DRIVERS are being warned to expect delays as £500,000 worth of road improvements get under way in Torfaen.

The council is investing around £500,000 of funding into the works, including resurfacing, starting tomorrow.

In Cwmbran, the roads effected are Thornhill Road, Five Locks Road, Grove Park, Maendy Way, Station Road, Woodlands Road, Chapel Street, Ty Gwyn Road, Fairwater Way, Hollybush Way, Henllys Way and Llantarnam Industrial Estate.

Blaenavon roads included are the B428 Abergavenny Road, Garn Road to Boundary, Cwmavon Road, Varteg Road and Church Road to Princes Street.

Work will also be carried out on Commercial Road, Garndiffaith and the A4043 between the roundabouts at Tesco in Pontypool.

A council spokesman said the works have been timed to coincide with the school holidays to reduce disruption, but drivers are being warned to expect some delays.

Signs are being erected at the effected roads and letters sent to residents on the streets where the works are scheduled.

Cllr John Cunningham, neighbourhood services executive member, said: "This investment will lead to significant improvements of Torfaen's highway network. By planning these works for the school holidays when traffic is quieter we are attempting to minimise disruption, but some delays will be inevitable while these essential works are carried out."
