A RECYCLING trial which gave Newport residents an extra textile collection has proved to be a big success.
The trial, carried out by Newport City Council and its partners Wastesavers, collected around 500kg of unwanted textiles from the Pilton Vale and Claremont areas.
Councillor David Fouweather, cabinet member for street services, said the authority collected almost ten times more textiles than normal and all items would be reused or recycled into items such as bedding for pets.
Newport Wastesavers is looking to build on the success of this trial, in a bid to reach a 52 per cent recycling rate by March 2013, and is reminding residents they can put their old clothes shoes and textiles out for collection in the blue box every week.
