TREASURE dating from the late Bronze Age was found in a Cwmbran field, an inquest in Newport was told yesterday.
The plain pegged spearhead fragment and the single runner casting jet were found by David Harrison while metal detecting in Llantarnam in March last year.
A casting jet is a plug of metal which fits into a mould and is knocked out when the object is completed.
Gwent coroner David Bowen said the items, which were found around 20ft apart and four to six inches below the ground. are likely to date from between 950 and 800BC.
Mr Bowen said he had accepted advice from the curator of the British Museum – Bronze in Iron Age and declared the items as treasure.
The items are now in the museum. The finder and landowner have waived their right to any reward.
