STAFF at an Abergavenny clothes shop saved from closure last month took to the catwalk to raise money for a local church.

Workers from Bonmarché, which was part of the collapsed retailer Peacocks Group, were last month spared from losing their jobs after the company was bought out by Sun European Partners.

To celebrate they decided to showcase the fashion retailer’s new spring collection and raise cash for St Mary’s Priory Church at the same time.

Manager Liz Jones said the takeover, which saved ten full and part-time jobs, spurred staff on to do something good for the community.

Last night 15 models, made up of staff and churchgoers, strutted their stuff on the catwalk in front of a 100- strong audience in a bid to reach their target of £800.
