NEWPORT pupils showed off their new uniform yesterday ahead of the move into their new £29 million building.
Hartridge High pupils tried out the new look ready for when they move into the new state-of-the-art school next month, which will be known as Llanwern High.
The design of the new uniform came about following consultation with every pupil before the governors then made the final decision based on the pupils’ suggestions.
The new uniform consists of black trousers or skirt, white shirt and a black blazer complete with the new school logo, which was designed by media studies teacher Liz Gormley.
The silver logo includes an alder tree, the definition of ‘Wern’, and incorporates the initials ‘LH’.
A black and silver striped tie is the final addition.
The uniform will be supplied by both Newport’s Trutex Schoolwear and Macey Sports Ltd.
Business manager at the school Andy Knight said blazers and ties will be provided free to every pupil at the school when the new building opens on April 23.
The school, which will house 1,450 pupils, is also looking at ways of offering the items at discounted prices in future years.
Mr Knight said: “It is all about making it affordable for the parents. Every pupil was also consulted when designing the uniform.”
The new school is being built under the city council’s major secondary school redevelopment programme.
