NEWPORT West MP Paul Flynn called on the Westminster government to do more to help war veterans who suffer with mental health problems as a result of their service.

Speaking at the House of Commons on Wednesday, Mr Flynn congratulated the Welsh Government, which has set up a £500,000 fund to ensure that every health authority in Wales has a specialised doctor, experienced in dealing with recovering war veterans.

His speech came after the announcement that six soldiers had died in an explosion in Afghanistan.

Mr Flynn said that while the total number of fallen soldiers since the conflict stands at 404, thousands had been left “broken in body and mind”

and it was right they were given the care they need.
