DO YOU know someone who is community-minded, public-spirited and hard-working?

The Argus has joined forces with Gwent Police for the Gwent Active Citizen Award, aimed at recognising members of the public who play an active role in the community.

Every year Gwent Police honour the excellent work of individuals in the force and outside, and this year the Argus is looking for nominations for hard-working members of the public who do their bit to help their community and the police.

Whether they help elderly and vulnerable neighbours, provide activities for young people to keep them off the streets, or have put their safety on the line to help others, we want to hear from you.

Gwent Chief Constable Carmel Napier said: “In addition to recognising officers and staff, this year we are working in partnership with the South Wales Argus to identify candidates for the Gwent Active Citizen Award. This award will recognise members of the public who make, or have made, their communities a safer place to live.

“We all know someone who through a selfless deed or dedicated commitment has made a real difference to the lives of others. I hope that Argus readers will help us recognise these special people.”

Anyone can nominate a member of the public for the award and there is no age limit.

The winner of the award will be selected by a panel of judges, including Argus deputy editor Nicole Garnon.

A special certificate will be present to the winner at an awards ceremony on May 22, at the Llanhilleth Miners’ Institute.

To make a nomination either e-mail ailsa.chalk@ southwalesargus.co.uk or write to Ailsa Chalk, South Wales Argus, Cardiff Road, Newport, NP20 3QN, telling us your name and contact details, who you are nominating and why.

Nominations must be in by April 2.
