AS ATHLETES all over the world are preparing for this year’s London Olympics, residents closer to home are gearing up for a once in a lifetime chance to carry the games’ iconic torch.

Here is the full list of runners in Gwent: On May 25, Monmouth resident Robyn Tyler, 21, will lead the relay through her hometown joined by Hazel Cave, 43, of Raglan, and Kelvin Perrett, 64, of Cwmbran.

In Abergavenny Dorothy Turner, 70, of Caldicot and Pontypool man John Harris, 33, will join Cardiff-born Lyn Hull, 60, and Sam Rawbone, 35, of Cwmbran. Also carrying the torch in the market town, spurred on by the sound of St Mary's Priory Church bells, is Sean Lewis, 16, of Llanbradach and Anthony Palmer, 39, of Caerphilly.

Leading the way in Abersychan will be Blaenau Gwent’s David Roberts, 25, Hannah Charnley, 17, Mina Morris, 19, and Olivia Jones, 12, all from Brecon.

They will be accompanied by Gwent-born Rhys Williams, 13, and Steven Bonera, 33, of Cwmbran.

Running through the World Heritage town of Blaenavon, will be Newport women Anne Shingler, 42, and Ellie Coster, 16, along with David Chaffey, 28, of Ebbw Vale, Frans Eenennaam, 63, who is originally of the Netherlands town of Winterswijk, George Ryley, 17, of Monmouth, and Nigel Critchley, 46, of Cardiff.

In Newport, teenager Hywel Jenkins, 17, will lead the way followed by 12-year-old Caity Exton, and Emily Barnes, 26, all of Cardiff, along with Carl Bainton, 49, of Ebbw Vale.

Also in representing their home town will be Emma Garland, 19, Mark James, 48, Marlene Barnett, 74, and Rob Westwood, 16.

They will join Lee Harvey, 41, of Cwmbran, Matt Skinner, 27, of Cardiff, Sarah Baker, 42, of Llanfrechfa, Sarah Benham, 44, of Penarth and Tony Williams, 70, of Wells.

In Pontypool, local man Eric Whitlock, 50, will carry the torch along with Emma King, 31, of Monmouth, Meg Jones, 13, of Cwmbran, Ray Morgan, 31, of Usk and Sean Phillips, 39, and Liam Fletcher, 12, both of Newport.

Danielle Seivwright, 19 and Daiva Ponsen, 16, from Roosendaal in the Netherlands, will complete the task in Raglan, while Ebbw Vale's James Edwards, 21, Jamie Scriven, 14, of Merthyr Tydfil and Nadine Struijk, from The Netherlands town of Zoetermeer, will run in Brynmawr.

A day later on May 26 Andrew Honey-Jones, 32, of Swansea, will take to the streets of Caerphilly with Bronwen Davies, and Christian White, both 16, and Malcolm Green, 70, all of Ebbw Vale.

They will be joined by Daniel Kenny, 20, of Pontyclun, David Powell, 69, of Llantrisant and Helen Evans, 56, of Wotton Under Edge.

Other Gwent torch-bearers

Gwent fundraisers will also represent in other areas of Wales.

Newport history maker and Marie Curie Fundraiser Richard Parks, 34, will run in Swansea, Ady Lewis, 37, of Blackwood will be in Treorchy, while Matthew Poultney, 24, of Ebbw Vale, will carry the torch in Llanelli.

Caerleon fundraiser Samantha Hunt, 22, Gwent-born Samuel Weed, 19, and Newport residents Andy Hunt, 47, and Angharad Williams, 21, will be in Cardiff. Rachel Vernall, 42, of Cwmbran, will run in Briton Ferry.
