BLAENAVON’S Heritage Railway will be operating a special steam-hauled Park and Ride service on May 25 to mark the Olympic Torch coming to Torfaen.
The torch will be commencing its journey at Big Pit and will then travel through Blaenavon. Access to Big Pit will be restricted, with no car parking.
To enable people to enjoy this event, Blaenavon’s Heritage Railway will be operating from their main station at Furnace Sidings (just off the Blaenavon Brynmawr Road at Garnyr- Erw) to their new station at Big Pit.
Services will start at 11am and run on demand to Big Pit until 12.20pm, when a special service will run from Furnace Sidings to the Bridge over the Big Pit road to watch the convoy coming in from Brynmawr and to greet the torch.
The service will then resume until 2.05pm, when it will return to the bridge to watch the torch relay depart for Blaenavon, after which the shuttle will restart until demand dwindles.
Fares will be £4 for adults, £2.50 for children, or a family ticket for two adults and up to three children can be purchased for £10.
