NEWPORT residents can enjoy an afternoon of entertainment this Friday to celebrate the passing of the Olympic torch.
From 1.30pm the area around the Riverfront will become alive with dancers and street entertainers, including Bernie Bennett, an Olympic-themed mechanical runner, and Bruce Airhead, who has a special Olympic-themed programme.
People can take part in an interactive screen sports game, as well as having the chance to meet Fireman Sam and Minnie and Mickey Mouse by the Wave.
You can also try your hand at Olympic-related sports such as basketball, rowing, cycling and boxing outside Newport Centre, while stilt walkers will entertain the crowds outside Lloyds TSB in Commercial Street.
People are advised to get there early in order to get a good spot to see the torch when it arrives in the city at 3.45pm by the castle.
Phone company Samsung will give out keepsakes along by The Riverfront, while Coca-Cola staff will be positioned by Asda in Pill, and will have a truck following the convoy from Tesco in Cardiff Road.
