A SPECIALLY commissioned mural to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee will be unveiled in Abergavenny this weekend.
Local artist Dave Parkinson, 61, of St Helen’s Road, has spent a month painting the mural, three panels measuring more than two metres high and three metres wide that depict the town in 1952 when Queen Elizabeth II came to the throne.
The Jubilee Mural, commissioned by the town council, is being painted on the side wall of Bon Marche in St John’s Street.
The panels feature the old railway viaduct in Llanfoist, the cattle market and a view of Abergavenny Castle.
Mr Parkinson, who has been painting murals for more than 30 years, said he was honoured to be chosen to complete the project.
He said: “It has taken a month of working seven days a week.
“It has been particularly difficult working in the heat as the paint dries before it reaches the wall but I am on target to finish in time for the official unveiling at 11am on June 2.”
