THE University of Wales, Newport has appointed Professor Stephen Hagen as acting vice-chancellor.
Professor Hagen, the university’s current deputy vicechancellor (academic), will take up the post on June 1.
Outgoing vice-chancellor Dr Peter Noyes is remaining in a support role to aid the transition process.
Professor Hagen said: “I am delighted to take up the post and will ensure Newport remains fully committed to working towards the development of a new university for South-East Wales, which would be designed to benefit the people of the whole region, and one which would unashamedly help to re-build the local economy.”
He paid tribute to the outgoing vice-chancellor.
“Peter has been responsible for Newport University’s transformation into a modern, thriving and outward-looking university,” said Professor Hagen.
“His commitment to the people and communities of Gwent was the driving force in his tenure – he will be missed by the university’s staff, students and supporters alike.”
