THERE are a number of organised events being held across Gwent over the coming days to celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee.
Around 4,000 people are expected at Caldicot Castle and Country Park on Monday for a free, all-day extravaganza with stalls, funfair, firework display, a baking competition and local dance groups.
The fun will get under way at 2pm with the Galaxy cheerleaders, a choir including West End, Castle Park and Green Lane school pupils and the Caldicot Crusaders marching band all performing.
In Chepstow, 60 UK No 1 one hits – one from each year of the Elizabeth II’s reign – will be sung at the Riverside bandstand. Singers range from 16-70 and the audience is invited to bring picnics to The Diamond Discs Hit Parade, from 1pm on Tuesday.
Visitors to Abergavenny can watch a parade from the castle to the Brewery Yard tomorrow and there’s a community fun day at Bailey Park on Tuesday.
On Monday, Chepstow Rugby Football Club is holding stalls, a barbecue, hog roast and a disco, from at noon.
Jubilee Tea will be served at the Beaufort Ballroom, Ebbw Vale, on June 8 at 3pm. Enjoy an afternoon of musical entertainment with pianist and vocalist Ross Leadbeater. Tickets cost £5, which includes a glass of sparkling wine, followed by a light tea.
On Sunday, Tredegar Town Band will be at the town’s bandstand at Bedwellty House and Park for a dual celebration – the bandstand was built 100 years ago.
In Penygarn, Pontypool, on Tuesday there will be fête at Jubilee Gardens, with a bouncy castle, stalls, entertainment and refreshments: 12pm-4pm.
In Newport on Monday, there’s the Diamond Jubilee Beacon event at Ridgeway, Allt-yr-yn (7.30pm- 11pm). A free evening of live music, wonderful views, ending with the spectacle of the beacon being lit. See the www.maindee. org for more details.
