THE service that runs Newport passport office will move the office to Nexus House, Usk Way, it was confirmed today.
The Argus revealed last month how the Identity and Passport Service was looking at two sites for its planned relocation of the Newport customer service centre.
Today an IPS spokesperson said the move would happen next year.
The spokesperson said: "IPS remains committed to having a passport customer service centre in Newport. Subject to due diligence processes and final lease negotiations, the centre will move to a new location at Nexus House, Usk Way, next year, ahead of expiry of the current lease.
"The new location has good access to customers coming to Newport either via road or rail, and also for staff."
IPS chief executive Sarah Rapson announced last May that current site Olympia House would cease to be used by the regional office in 2013.
