BBC One Show presenter Alex Jones and Only Men Aloud musical director Tim Rhys-Evans will co-present a magical evening of music at this year’s BBC Proms in the Park, in Caerphilly’sOwain Glyndwˆr Playing Fields, on Saturday, September 8, at 7.45pm.
Ammanford-born Alex Jones joined The One Show in 2010 and has become a mainstay on the channel, presenting Eurovision results and taking part in the BBC 1 series Strictly Come Dancing in 2011.
Joining Alex on stage is Tim Rhys-Evans, who led youth choir Only Boys Aloud to the final of ITV1’s Britain’s Got Talent earlier this year.
Performing a selection of operatic favourites and popular classics will be two of Wales’ most popular singing sensations – soprano and Radio 3 presenter Elin Manahan Thomas, from Swansea, and tenor Wynne Evans, fromCarmarthen.
They will also lead the audience in sing-along performances of songs including Sosban Fach, We’ll Keep a Welcome andCwmRhondda, accompanied by the BBC National Orchestra and Chorus of Wales.
The orchestra, under Tecwyn Evans, will be performing a variety ofmagical music throughout the evening including music fromHarry Potter, and the BBC One drama Merlin, made by Shine West for BBC Cymru Wales.
Fifteen-year-old cellist Laura van der Heijden, winner of BBC Young Musician 2012, will be joining the orchestra on stage following her recent victory, and will perform the secondmovement fromElgar’s Cello Concerto.
Bringing the summer festivities to a close, with classical music and fireworks, families and music lovers are invited to bring picnics and flags and to join in with this magical Prompresented by BBC Cymru Wales, supported by Caerphilly County Borough Council.
