CAERPHILLY is all set to host BBC Proms in the Park next month.
The event will be a magical musical celebration that will run simultaneously with similar themed proms in Belfast, Glasgow and London’s Hyde Park Concertgoers will be invited to take along a picnic and absorb the fantastic repertoire with performances from soprano Elin Manahan Thomas and tenor Wynne Evans along with music from the BBC National Orchestra and Chorus of Wales. Cellist and winner of BBC Young Musician 2012, Laura van der Heijden, will also be performing.
Well-known music from The Wizard of Oz, Merlin, Harry Potter and The Phantom of the Opera will feature throughout the evening, appealing to everyone.
Audiences are also invited to wave Welsh and Union flags and sing along to popular numbers such as ‘Men of Harlech’, ‘Rule Britannia’, ‘Cwm Rhondda’ and ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’.
BBC One Show presenter Alex Jones and Only Men Aloud conductor Tim Rhys-Evans will be co-presenters of this magical evening of music at Caerphilly’s Owain Glyndwr Playing Fields, which begin on Saturday, September 8, at 7.45pm.
Tickets can be bought in advance for £10 (with children 12 and under free), and can be booked through the Blackwood Miners’ Institute on 01495 227206 or by visiting blackwoodminersinstitute.com. Tickets can also be obtained by the BBC National Orchestra of Wales audience line on 03700 10 10 51 or in person through the Visit Caerphilly Centre located opposite Caerphilly Castle. Tickets are also available on the day and at the event gate for £12.
