UK Steel Enterprise’s annual golf day in Monmouth has helped fund the success of Welsh World Triathlon champion Non Stanford.
The event raises charity cash each year which goes towards The Hughes Foundation, supporting aspiring athletes with outstanding potential.
The foundation’s brightest star is Non Stanford, who has just won the ITU World Triathlon Championships with an outstanding performance.
Andy Morris, area manager of Tata subsidiary UK Steel Enterprise, said: “The Hughes Foundation was established following the death of David Hughes five years ago. David was manager of UKSE in Wales, and himself an excellent athlete, especially in triathlon. It is run by his daughters, Rhian and Nerys, themselves accomplished triathletes.
“He would have been thrilled to see a Welsh athlete taking this world crown.”
The day was held at the Rolls of Monmouth, and attended by business people and professionals from Wales.
