Tiny Rebel, Newport’s only microbrewery, has opened the doors to its first tap house in Cardiff, The Urban Tap House.
The brewery, which has taken over the old Fireisland establishment on Westgate Street, has gone from strength to strength in the last 18 months culminating in the opening of its first premises.
The Urban Tap house will create 20 new jobs in the city centre and offer its customers an unrivalled craft bar experience.
Director Bradley Cummings, who jointly established the brewery with brother-in-law Gareth Williams last year, said:
“We are delighted to be opening our first tap house in Cardiff. When the opportunity came to buy Fireisland we knew this was the right place for us to open our first bar.
“The aim of the Urban Tap House is to create a different drinking and dining experience for our customers. We stock not only our own beers but we’ll be offering a range of around 100+ beers of all different styles from around the world that are brewed by independent breweries like ourselves which you can’t buy in other pubs and restaurants around the city.
“We also wanted to make sure it wasn’t just a destination for beer enthusiasts. We have made sure we have a good selection of ciders and perries, wines, spirits and independently manufactured soft drinks to ensure that the tap house is a place everyone wants to come.”
As well as stocking a wide selection of independent beers the bar will also serve burgers and fries and hold busking nights, board game competitions and tap takeovers where they’ll invite down a like minded brewery to showcase their beers.
Bradley continued: “We have been serving burgers at our brewery open nights in Newport and the combination worked so well that we wanted to continue the tradition here. We also wanted to makes sure that the Urban Tap House became more than just another pub. By holding interactive events and busking nights we hope that there will be something for everyone. You never know one of our events might unearth the next Tom Jones!”
