Pets at Home has invested more than £270,000 in its Newport store, which now has a new look and an RSPCA Adoption Centre.
Located on Mendalgief Retail Park on Docks Way, the 10,074 sq ft store now homes also houses a groom room and a Companion Care veterinary surgery.
The centre is the result of the collaboration between the RSPCA, Pets at Home and the independent charity supported by the retailer, Support Adoption For Pets, which co-funded the project with a donation of £36,000.
The centre, the third of its kind, is a separate zone within the store, complete with a living room area where customers can seek advice on rehoming and meet pets in a relaxed and welcoming environment. It accommodates both cats and dogs and provides a unique opportunity for the RSPCA to find new loving homes for more pets in the local area and to give people an insight into the work of the charity.
All of the pets at the centre will be available for rehoming and in addition, there will be an opportunity for visitors to be made aware of pets available for adoption in other RSPCA branches in the local area.
Support Adoption For Pets, the charity established and supported by Pets at Home and who co-funded the project, has raised more than £2m in the past 12 months thanks to the fundraising efforts of store colleagues and customers, and provides much-needed support to animal welfare charities and local rehoming centres across the UK.
