Paralympic medal winner John Harris, guest speaker at the City of Newport Business Club recent event held at The Holiday Inn Newport, entertained the guests with an array of honest, heartfelt and inspiring accounts of his life since his horrific accident 50 years ago.
His humour and honesty in relaying his feelings and motivation to ‘do something’ with his life after he broke his back falling 18m from a Ferris wheel was well received by the guests. His ambitious streak was rewarded by setting world records and winning three Olympic medals which he proudly displayed to the audience – together with his personal 2012 Olympic torch which he was nominated to carry through the streets of Blaenavon.
John’s most recent charity escapade was part of a team which completed an ascent of the Marangu route of Mount Kilimanjaro with John in an off-road wheelchair to help raise funds for the charity Dreams and Wishes.
