The Super-Connected Newport project aims to get as many businesses as possible using superfast and ultrafast broadband to improve the way they do business.
Providing the funding is an important part of the project, but getting the message out about the project, the funding and the benefits of superfast broadband is critical to the success of the project.
So the support of Newport’s banks is hugely important.
Cllr Bob Bright, Leader of Newport City Council, said: "The Super-Connected Newport project gives our small businesses the opportunity to transform the way they work and become even more successful in driving forward our economy. So we welcome all the support we can get to ensure businesses are aware of the project. The banks can be hugely influential, and we are really pleased they are getting so involved.”
The banks, including Barclays, RBS, NatWest and Santander are all actively discussing the Super-Connected Newport project with their business customers, and this is already paying dividends.
James Watson, Local Business Manager of Santander Business Banking was the first of the banks’ business managers to refer a client directly to the project.
James said: "The Super-Connected Newport is a really important opportunity for our small business customers to benefit from the funding, and benefit from the huge advantages of superfast broadband. We’ll be discussing the opportunity with all of our business customers.”
James’ client referred to the Super-Connected Newport project was Daniel Rumsey of NSP Gaming.
Daniel desperately needs to improve his broadband connection to improve his business.
Daniel said: "It’s vital that we have good internet access for our business, and we are having real problems with our existing broadband connection. James put us in touch with the Super-Connected Newport team, and now they’re helping us sort out a connection, and the funding to help pay for it. We really couldn’t ask for better support from a bank.”
