An ambitious new security business in north Gwent is aiming for rapid expansion in its early years.
Central Security Services of Ebbw Vale, launched by Mel Jones and Liam Morgan, is bidding to obtain the all important Approved Contractor Status by the Security Industry Association, the gateway to further growth.
CSS has been supported by a £1,000 grant from the Kickstart Plus programme, run jointly by Tata Steel subsidiary UK Steel Enterprise and Blaenau Gwent Council.
“The SIA accreditation is crucial to us,” said operations director Mel Jones. “It will enable us to tender for all security contracts in Blaenau Gwent and surrounding areas.”
Demand is strong for security companies which take a professional approach, he said.
"Clients and insurance companies are increasingly insisting on qualifications to demonstrate standards, and this is the way the industry is moving,” he said.
CSS already works to the standards of BS7499, and holds BS7858.
Finance director Liam Morgan said: “This year we will be applying for the Approved Contractor Status, and this will be a major step forward.
“We are a highly-professional organisation and pride ourselves in our customer partnerships. Our experienced staff have a proven record in providing customer service and we always go the extra mile to exceed expectations.”
The service covers static security staff for industrial, commercial and construction sites, mobile patrols, key holding and alarm response. As well as this CSS offers CCTV and alarm installation, and monitoring and maintenance of systems.
CSS also works closely with WB Employment, an important company in the area.
Mr Jones said: “When we obtain the SIA accreditation we will be looking to rapid growth. We are aiming to break the £1m turnover barrier within five years.”
In the short term, five full times jobs are to be created and this will rise to 15 after the first year of trading.
Louise Harris, of Blaenau Gwent Council, said: “We were happy to support CSS in obtaining the accreditation as it will help to ensure the sustainability of the business.”
Ruth Headon, of UK Steel Enterprise, said:” It is excellent to see a local company with ambitious growth plans, which will create lasting, quality jobs for local people.”
