John Moore, chairman of Caerphilly-based Thomas Carroll Group plc, has been awarded an MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours.
Mr Moore has been granted the honour for services to the financial services sector and charitable services to Ty Hafan Children's Hospice in Wales.
He joined Thomas Carroll as managing director in 1981 when the company employed eight people. He has since steered it to become the largest independent insurance broking, health and safety and financial services groups in Wales, employing more than 130 people across four regional offices.
John Moore said: “My immediate thought is that this is an honour that reflects deservedly on all at the TC Group. We have achieved our business success together, sharing a common ethos that supports, develops and rewards our people, placing our clients at the heart of everything we do.
"In accepting this honour I will do so on behalf of our entire group, and the people, industry and clients whose dedication and support over the years makes me immensely proud.”
Since 2009 Thomas Carroll has expanded its operations regionally with new offices in Swansea, Haverfordwest and Hereford, in addition to its Caerphilly headquarters.
Supporters of Ty Hafan since its earliest development phase, Thomas Carroll successfully raised £80,000 for the hospice in the group’s 40th anniversary year of 2012.
Rhys Thomas, managing director of Thomas Carroll Brokers, said: “This latest honour firmly establishes John as one of the most respected figures in the insurance broking profession.
"It reflects his immense and infectious drive and spirit that has inspired the growth and success of our Group over the past thirty three years. As a Group we are also overjoyed that Ty Hafan also shares in the citation for this tremendous honour.”
In 2010 John Moore was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Insurance Age UK Broker Awards, for forty years contribution to his profession.
Last year, Mr Moore, a stalwart member of Pentyrch Cricket Club for the past 51 seasons, received a Lifetime Achievement Award for his dedication to Welsh cricket, by the sports governing body Cricket Wales.
