A TEAM from workplace services provider PHS Group geared up for a charity cycle challenge to raise £5,000, adding to the £50,000 already raised.

Nine riders from the head office in Caerphilly saddled up and cycled from Smethwick to Caerphilly, travelling a distance of 108 miles.

The team raised money for Together for Short Lives, a national charity for children with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions. Money raised will be used to support the work of hospices across the UK, including Ty Hafan Children’s Hospice in South Wales.

Over the past 12 months, PHS Group’s dedicated charitable body, The PHS Foundation has already donated £50,000 to Together for Short Lives through a series of fundraising activities. This includes cake sales, fun runs and a Barmy Barnet Day where all staff wore wigs for the day.

The cycle challenge forms part of PHS Group’s annual charity fundraising event where all 5,000 PHS staff from 140 site locations across the UK come together to organise a series of fundraising activities to raise money for the Group’s nominated charity.

The Cycle Challenge is yet another example of the fantastic enthusiasm and support we have had from the staff at PHS, and we are extremely grateful.”

Emma Wood, Group Sustainability Manager at PHS Group, said: “Our annual fundraising event is a great opportunity for people to get involved in raising money for their local hospice. It’s great to see so many people getting involved. There were so many fun events across the country including the cycle challenge. We all cheered on the riders as they set off and celebrated with them on their return.”

The PHS Foundation was set up in order to make a real contribution to local communities. The Foundation has established a charitable partnership with Together For Short Lives and also supports a number of other charitable schemes where employees work together to achieve local impact on a nationwide scale.
