A new jewellery company is proving a shining example of enterprise in the Valleys.
Cwmglo Jewellery, of Cwmtillery, is turning out a stunning range of quality work, and already the firm is looking to expand.
Orders have arrived from Ohio in the US, where customers are impressed with the Celtic designs crafted by jewellers Diane Collins and Steven Roberts.
The business is steadily expanding with a presence in Abergavenny and Monmouth indoor markets, a sales team and a planned online platform, and the owners are aiming to grow considerably in coming years.
Cwmglo Jewellery has been supported by the Kickstart Plus programme, run by Tata subsidiary UK Steel Enterprise and Blaenau Gwent Council.
Diane said: “Sales are going well and customers appreciate the quality and value for money we offer. Our designs are popular and we get excellent feedback from customers.”
Gem stones and semi-precious gem stones are obtained from India, and all work is done personally by Diane and Steve in their workshop. They have recently added enamelling and cord (rattail) work to their range.
Steve said: “The Kickstart programme was very helpful indeed. As well as a £900 grant for equipment, we had a three day session with a silversmith on a one-to-one basis and that was fantastic.”
The next stage is to expand to larger premises and open a factory outlet.
Steve said: “We would like to move to a bigger workshop and combine it with a sales outlet. People could then see the work being done and the jewellery being produced.”
Louise Harris, of Blaenau Gwent Council, said: "The kickstart Plus programme was set up to assist new small businesses to develop and expand. Cwmglo Jewellery is going from strength to strength and we are delighted to have played a part.”
Kim Robinson, of UK Steel Enterprise, said: "This is clearly a business which can grow and create a range of jobs in the local area and we are delighted to have given it our support.”
