Local choice for local people is the aim of Ceri Nash’s new boutique for youngsters.
A Child’s Boutique opened its doors in the centre of Brynmawr earlier this year, and shoppers have responded to the attractive range of clothes on offer for babies to eight-year-olds.
Ceri feels that standard multiples we see on the High Street are offering too narrow a choice, and letting down discerning customers.
She said: “It is hard to find niche clothes shops for youngsters offering something different. If people want something a little out of the ordinary, it can be difficult.”
While the internet clearly serves the needs of very many people, local choice was important too, she said.
"Some people are moving away from Internet shopping these days, and want to go into a shop and see the clothes for themselves, and try them on,” she said.
Ranges on offer at A Child’s Boutique include Pretty Originals, Sarah Louise, Tutto Picollo, Dolce Petite and Mayoral.
A Child’s Boutique has been supported by the Kickstart Plus programme run jointly by Tata subsidiary UK Steel Enterprise and Blaenau Gwent Council.
A grant of £856 was provided, which helped to establish the boutique.
“It was great to have that support. There were a lot of start up costs, and I wanted the shop to have a unique look,” said Ceri.
Ruth Headon, of UK Steel Enterprise, said: "A Child’s Boutique is an excellent addition to the local shopping facilities in Brynmawr and we are delighted to have been able to offer support to help get the business established.”
