It may be only six months since their takeover, but the new owners of Ebbw Vale NHS dental practice Bethcar Dental Practice are celebrating their success after achieving significant levels of growth and an exciting new contract win.
Purchased by husband and wife duo Rhys and Laura Morgan thanks to financial backing from The Royal Bank of Scotland, the practice has won a contract with the local health board to offer dental domiciliary care for individuals in care homes or to those who are unable to make the trip to the practice. This new business win has meant significant growth for the practice and has led them to expand the team working for them, adding a new member of staff.
The surgery, which was previously called LT Holdings and is based on Bethcar Street, came up for sale last year.
Rhys and Laura had worked in the practice and thanks to the support of a loan from RBS, decided that they should take the opportunity to buy the business. The fee-free loan was provided through the government's Funding for Lending Scheme.
Rhys Morgan, owner of Bethcar Dental Practice, said: “Even though it has only been six months since our takeover was finalised, we are delighted at how straightforward the process has been and at the progress we have since made with the business.
“The support we have received from RBS has been phenomenal. This is our first venture as owners so it has been daunting at times for us but the team have been so supportive and understanding and the advice we have been given has been excellent.
“Since taking over the practise we haven’t looked back, we changed its name but other than that have kept everything as our patients have grown accustomed to.
“Winning the domiciliary care contract was such a fantastic achievement. We applied for the tender and were thrilled when we found out our application had been successful - it is just such a big thing to happen at this stage and for the practice’s future growth. It has also meant that we have had to take on a new member of staff meaning that we now have six dentists and ten members of support staff in total.
“We are also currently working towards securing the British Dental Association Good Practice Award for the practice. This is our industry’s quality assurance program and once achieved, will demonstrate to our patients our commitment to providing quality dental care to nationally recognised standards.”
Mark Woolley, senior healthcare relationship manager at RBS, said: ”The success that Rhys and Laura have achieved in such a short space of time has been impressive. They have both worked tirelessly to ensure that they get their ownership of the practice off to a good start and it has been a pleasure to work alongside them. We are looking forward to continuing to work with Laura and Rhys as they continue to build their business in the future.”
