Newport-based waste management company GD Environmental has been awarded a Silver Zero Waste Award at one of the UK’S largest waste recycling industry awards.
The Zero Waste Awards attract entrants from public, private and third sector organisations from all areas of the UK.
Organised by The Environment Media Group, the company behind letsrecycle.com, the awards recognise all types of initiatives that prevent waste at source.
The awards celebrate Britain’s accelerating journey towards sustainable resource management whilst demonstrating the benefits of cutting waste.
Recognising that sustainability is a team effort, not a contest, the Zero Waste Awards aren’t competitive and entrants are judged purely on their merit.
The awards lunch, a highlight in the waste and resource calendar, was held at Coombe Abbey in Warwickshire when industry leaders from across the country gathered to network and share best practice.
Steve Eminton, editor of letsrecycle.com, said: “Businesses are innovating to cut waste from their processes, saving money and reducing their dependence on raw materials. The Zero Waste Awards celebrate the impact of these sustainable business models and show others what can be achieved. Regarded as one of the most environmentally considerate waste management companies operating in Wales today, GD Environmental has developed a waste reduction and recycling strategy which focusses on mitigating the negative impacts that waste has on the environment, by reducing landfill reliance through maximising waste recycling.”
GD Environmental were not the only Welsh company recognised for their work towards Wales’ Zero Waste goals. Caerphilly County Borough Council were also accredited a silver award while Gwent-based Amber Services received a bronze award.
