Newport-based Kilsby & Williams assisted in the recent sale of Monmouthshire-based Raglan Garden Centre Ltd to Wyevale Garden Centres Ltd.
Stephen Williams, founding partner at the accountancy specialists Kilsby & Williams, provided owners and operators Martin and Jean Davies and their management team with financial guidance and support throughout the exacting due diligence process of selling the business.
Mr and Mrs Davies acquired the site in 1991 and have since taken it from strength to strength, improving footfall and building the impressive restaurant and stylish interiors department at the 40,000sq ft award-winning garden centre.
The centre has been recognised with a number of recent awards, including winners of GTN's Gold Garden Care Team 2014, GCA's Best Plant Area Wales & West 2013 and Best Christmas Displays 2012 & 2013.
Martin Davies said: "After 23 years at the helm, it was time for us to take a step back and hand over the reins of Raglan to a company which can drive it forward and continue the success it has enjoyed. This is not without regret, as we have made great friends in the industry and we will miss them sorely. Our team at Raglan has been inspirational in making the business what it is today and for that we would like to thank them all sincerely.
““My wife and I also purchased a portion of the land from the garden centre prior to the sale, as it wasn’t needed by the incoming buyer and Stephen Williams from Kilsby & Williams constructed the entire deal so it was as beneficial to us as possible when selling to a large plc.”
Stephen Williams said: “We were delighted to be able to work closely with Martin and Jean Davies when they came to us with an exciting plan for the garden centre’s future, while it has such a strong reputation and thriving and loyal customer base.
“The business was recognised for its impressive record of year on year growth, making it an attractive proposition to the acquisition hungry Wyevale Group. We were happy to assist Martin and Jean in their negotiations and wish them, as well as the team at the garden centre, every success for the future.”
Kilsby & Williams is based at the Celtic Springs Business Park on the outskirts of Newport and has a staff of 40. With clients spread throughout South Wales, the Midlands and the London area, it looks after businesses ranging from sole traders through to international companies.
