A new steak house has opened in Maindee, Newport, after a local businessman took over a rundown building in the area and brought it back to life.
Chris Jarvis took over The Banc in Maindee and has re-opened it as Hot Rocks, a new independent restaurant. He previously ran The Windsor Castle in the city centre. Kelly Moore has been employed as the landlady/manageress.
A spokesman for Hot Rocks said: "It has taken a large amount of investment from Mr Jarvis but the new Hot Rocks Chargrill Bar Restaurant is set to take Maindee by storm. We will be running three food challenges for the man vs food lovers and the restaurant has an extremely family-friendly feel to it but it is also perfect for celebrations.
"On Friday and Saturday nights it transforms into a night venue with a DJ, dancefloor and cocktail menus, with occasional live acts."
Hot Rocks opened for business at the weekend and it is expected that the new venture will eventually employ up to 20 staff.
