An innovative 3D visualisation tool developed by See3D, will be used to promote the Crindau Marina project in Newport.

See3D, based at the University of Aberystwyth, has been commissioned to produce a piece of software which gives a fly-through' experience of what the finished marina and canal basin scheme will look like.

The virtual reality software will enable planners, council members, and all those involved in the development process, to experience the finished scheme in three dimensions and see how it will link in with the surrounding area.

The Crindau Marina scheme is one of a range of projects being developed by Newport Unlimited, the only Urban Regeneration Company in Wales.

The marina and canal basin project, for which major funding is being sought, will allow Newport to take advantage of its strategic waterside location and historical connections, and will significantly boost the regeneration work already underway.

Newport Unlimited's director of regeneration Andrew Dakin said: "The See3D software will be a key tool which we can use with potential investors, elected members, and to raise awareness in the community. It will really help in accurately visualising the proposed development."

David Neill, programme director of See3D, said: "We are delighted to be able to assist Newport Unlimited in creating an accurate visualisation of their plans.

"We hope that this will help to bring the scheme to life for everyone involved in the project."
