Whitehead Building Services has moved into its new purpose-built head office in Newport city centre.

The move is the latest phase of the company's ambitious growth plans.

The building, which was designed, built and financed by Whitehead, was officially opened by the Deputy Minister for Regeneration, Leighton Andrews.

The office isn't just an important milestone for the company, but is also a major development within the regeneration strategy of Newport and Wales.

The company's commitment and confidence in Wales is amply illustrated by this substantial £2m property investment. The impressive four-storey building, located in the new business area close to George Street Bridge is a living example of a few of the vast range of building services Whitehead offer.

Started in 1978 as a one man and his van' operation, Whitehead has developed into one of Wales' most successful home-grown companies.

A committed local employer with a workforce of 130 full time staff, Whitehead generates £14m of income per year.

Whitehead's has secured a number of prestigious building contracts in recent years including projects for the Celtic Manor Resort, Swansea Leisure Centre, Glamorgan County Cricket Club and the new office development for Media Wales in Cardiff.

Rhys Morton, managing director, Whitehead Building Services said: "Whitehead has a very bright future and so does the Welsh economy.

Wales is where we started and where we want to base our head office. We plan to further expand into England in the near future, which is something we are committed to."

The opening was attended by 300 guests, with rugby legend Jonathan Davies joining Leighton Andrews and Whitehead directors.
